Quito, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) The Ecuadorian government backs and will adopt the decisions made by MERCOSUR to support Bolivian President Evo Morales and against U.S. espionage, and favors the right to asylum, according to an official communiqué.
Ecuador also summoned its ambassadors to France, Portugal, Spain and Italy, given the actions taken by those governments, which it described as discriminatory, arbitrary, unfriendly, hostile and a violation of human rights against a Latin American head of State.
Vice President Jorge Glas represented the Government at the Summit of heads of State of MERCOSUR, held in Montevideo, Uruguay, where the Pro Tempore Presidency of the bloc was transferred to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Apart from backing the denunciation presented by Bolivia at the U.N. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ecuador and MERCOSUR member states will summoned their ambassadors to those European countries, so that they can provide information on the events.
The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry will also present, in coordination with the MERCOSUR Pro Tempore Presidency, a formal note of protest to the abovementioned European countries, demanding explanations and apologies.
