Pretoria, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) South Africas Former President Nelson Mandela, 94, continues to respond favorably to treatment and remains in serious condition, but stable, the president reported.

According to an official statement, this is the second consecutive day of relative improvement of Mandela’s health.

South African President Jacob Zuma visited Mandela Thursday at the medical center, and wished him a speedy recovery, the statement said.

Mandela, who led the fight against the apartheid regime, has been 34 days in the Mediclinic Heart hospital, due to recurring lung infection.

This is the fourth time Mandela is admitted to hospital since December for his respiratory problems contracted during 27 years of prison in the apartheid regime’s facilities.

The South African hero fought for 67 years against racial segregation imposed by the country's white minority until 1994.

He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and became, a year later, the first black president of South Africa's history.
