Historical Leader Nelson Mandela Seriously Ill but Stable

Pretoria, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) The historic African leader, Nelson Mandela, continues in the Medi-Clinic Herat hospital in serious condition but stable condition, said the government after two weeks of hospitalization of the former president.

A statement stresses that the health of the hero of the struggle against apartheid segregationist system changed little since his admission to a hospital in this capital.

Mandela, 94 years old and who was the first black president of South Africa in 1994, had to be assisted because of a respiratory infection on June 8.

The message of the Presidency also confirms that intensive care ambulance that was carrying Mandela to hospital two weeks ago broke down on that journey by engine problems, so the patient was transferred to another military vehicle to the medical facility.

In an account of the matter, the message said that doctors who attend Madiba, the clan name by which Mandela is affectionately known, were satisfied that he was not harmed by this event.
