Pope Francis Defends Women Role in the Church


Rome, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Pope Francis defended today the women's position in church while denouncing how their role was usually relegated to servitude. Speaking at a conference at the Vatican to about 150 attendees to the event, the Holy Pontiff recalled that the Church is not male, but female. She is a woman, a mother, said in an apart on the official text written for the occasion, highlighted the TV in the capital.

The speech was prepared to mark the 25th anniversary of the council on the vocation of women, issued by the late Pope John Paul II, noted the Vatican radio.
